Katie Holland Nealon is a Chicago-based artist working primarily in collage, mixed media, and abstraction, with painting still at the root of her practice. Katie hails from Florida, where she received formal training in the visual arts at the University of Central Florida, earning a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a painting specialization.
Katie has long been drawn to the visualization of female imagery, often placing the image of the mid-20th-century woman in conversation with today's media-created ideal; a theme she developed early on through vintage etiquette books and advertising. That interest continues to surface in her work, now filtered through a more layered, intuitive process: torn and reconstructed materials, gestural mark-making, and abstracted forms that invite the viewer to piece meaning together rather than read it directly. In recent years, nature has become an equally strong current in her work, its textures, patterns, and rhythms increasingly shaping her compositions alongside her original interests.
She lives and works in Avondale.
