Finding Creativity

If you have been a follower of my work, you know I struggle constantly with finding creativity. My most common thought/concern is- How is this unique, what will draw people to this artwork? In the Internet age it is so easy to get overwhelmed with imagery. While it's great to have inspiration, it can also be a bit daunting. Thoughts of "well my work isn't THIS good" can hold me back, but does eventually turn in to "well, I need to work hard even harder to make my work THAT good" . Turn the doubt in to motivation!

I recently started listening to the Smart Creative Women podcast. I love hearing about how other people work. A peek in to everything from how they got started in art- to their day to day routine. I love hearing even the boring bits (setting aside time to administrative duties, etc), all of it.

Do you have any creative podcast that you listen to? Please let me know in the comments!

Art in Our Home

I wanted to share the artwork my boyfriend and I have up in our apartment because I feel once you hang art, it really feels like home.

*Links at the bottom of this post for various artists.

First is the office/studio in the 2nd bedroom. I like having this wall be a mixture of photographs, mixed media, and prints.

For a small place, we sure did pack in a lot of art! This is the main room, which we decided to hang pieces gallery style.

The bedroom features a few prints, I wanted to keep these walls more simple and avoid the gallery style of hanging.

Recent Commission

It was such a pleasure to work on this project! I was commissioned to do a Chicago flag on a vintage window frame that was provided to me. This frame was just perfect for the Chicago flag layout. It was a bit of a challenge working on a large piece in my small space, but I enjoyed working  bigger than I have been lately.

This was delivered to it's home in Logan Square today and the new owner is very happy, which makes me happy!

Newest Painting "Neckline"

I'm writing to you from my couch as I fight off a sore throat and fatigue, which per usual I will blame on the changing Chicago weather. Since I'm not painting this weekend, I wanted to share a piece I just finished. If you're in Chicago, you can currently view it at the newly remodeled Hairitics in Logan Square.

I had a lot of fun painting this lady! I struggled with the colors for awhile but am glad it finished this way.
