Sunday Project

I collect postcards and pamphlets from museums, gallery shows and craft fairs and have been working on putting them in a book. Now I can easily access them for inspiration or nostalgia purposes instead of them just sitting in a pile.

Genius.

This is a brief music post because every time I listen to Tim Barry's Rivanna Junction I think, "this man is a genius". Here is a photo I took at Reggie's last year when he jumped into the crowd to sing the first song. While I'm thinking of it, I should go buy tickets to his next show here in March.

Check out a live video (that someone else took because blogger didn't like my video) of the song "Exit Wounds" here

Listening to his music makes me miss the south a teeny, tiny bit.

New banner?

I've been thinking it's time for a new banner for my blog and I took some photos today for ideas. What a thrilling Sunday... I am also working on a valentine for my good friend Sarah of Felt and Paper! We love sending each other little presents, and I love getting mail (besides bills).

These photos are from a doily collage I made with wallpaper samples.

Side Note

I'm going to censor my language from what I really want to say here, but due to some corporate decision, I won't be hanging my work at John Fluevog this month, nor will anyone else for awhile...

I was not informed of this (
due to a lack of very basic management skills) until I showed up with my work ready to hang. Needless to say I am not very happy.

Getting Ready

Last minute gesso clean up off the edges (apparently I am lazy and never did this originally on some) on these paintings. Going to hang my work at John Fluevog in Wicker Park tomorrow and it will be on display for all of February.
Located right in the crotch of Wicker Park, so stop by and take a look! Oh I will have buttons for sale as well!

Finally!!!

Bout time I finished this bad boy. Colors look washed out here, but look a bit better on flickr

Fun with Wallpaper Samples

Thanks to my friend Michelle I have a lovely little stack of wallpaper samples to play around with. I liked using it with the doily but I need to find a more sturdy almost cardstock type of doily to support the thicker papers. As I type this I think I have some hiding somewhere....time to dig!

I just listed this cute little canvas on etsy, check it out here!!! I really need a better camera! But for now I work with what I got.

Simply Beautiful

This must be a new addition to the Modern Wing since I don't remember seeing it before. I was blown away by this piece and these pictures don't even begin to do it justice! There is stitching with yarn and thread throughout the piece, stunning detail and craftsmanship.

The Falcon!!!

I feel pretty darn lucky I got to see them this past Saturday for a secret Riot Fest show! They don't play too often...

"Studio"

One day I'll have a big space to work in (sigh). For now I am lucky to have the back library space in the new apartment to work. I like seeing other people's space so wanted to share mine. I need to get better pictures when it's light out though. Now off to paint!

I like this photo because it's kinda creepy

Goings ons

I'm realizing that I am not a good blogger. I have other things to do...day job, social life...etc.

I try.

Here are some photos from recent goings ons in the blustery Chicago

finally

Got my etsy shop back from vacation mode after the move/unpacking fun. Check it out here and buy yourself or a loved one a handmade gift today. Yay self promotion!

New Showing

Good news! The latest showing on work will be paintings hanging at the Dream Theatre in Pisen, during their upcoming new performance, The Black Duckling. I hang my work tomorrow and it will be on display from October 15th- November 15th.

Embroidery!

A commission piece just finished! About 6 or 7 hours of work, which is a rough estimate since I didn't keep track. I free hand drew everything on the fabric with inspiration from sublime stitching and the color scheme was inspired by the Chicago flag, which the client wanted.
