Collecting

Is collecting plates an old lady thing? If so, I'm going to be the coolest old person one day. I got a new plate this weekend so I thought I would share my small collection. I have another one in the basement somewhere but not quite sure where!

NEW NEW!

Listed some paintings in the Etsy shop! I wish I could afford a new camera, these photos don't do the pieces justice. Oh well, I work with what I got.

Feedback

Now that I have a computer again, I'm hoping to do more blogging. I started this to keep my friend Sarah updated on art projects I was working on after I moved to Chicago, and ended up realizing that if I didn't update it meant I was slacking on projects and needed to get to work. It's a nice way to keep myself on track.

I wanted to get some feedback and see what people would like to see on here. Work in progress photos? Tutorials? Nerdy art rants? Let me know in the comments! What type of posts do you like the best?

Currently Reading

Currently reading Vonnegut. One of the benefits of living somewhere where past roommates left piles of books is the ones that no one could come back for are now mine.

News and Stuff

The sale in my Etsy shop is over, dudes and dudettes. I have more mini paintings to post soon so keep checking here for updates!

My jewelry is available still at Lenny & Me in Wicker Park and very soon you will be able to pick up my stationary and bookmarks at Wolfbait and B-girls in Logan Square! I am dropping off the merchandise tonight. Very excited to be selling there, it's a great shop that only sells handmade items by Chicago artists and crafters.

Etsy shop is back!

Quick note that after being computer-less for about a month, my Etsy shop is back up and running. Check out what I have for sale here (my zine will be up soon).

Hooray!

Consumerism!

ZINE! BUY ME!

So I am still without a computer at home a month after the break-in (luckily I can fart around the internet at work). I have been meaning to post my zine for sale on Etsy but that’s a bit much to work on whilst at the ol’ job. BUT- if you are interested in purchasing my sketchbook zine titled “Day Job” I am gonna see how that goes then try to distribute at shops around Chicago and list on my Etsy. $2 +$1.50 shipping (in the US of A) = $3.50 for this handsome hunk of toner ink.

If you are interested in purchasing email heartless.arts@gmail.com

XOXOX

Night Owl

Next Tuesday! Come on out, have a drink or two, and check out work from local artists. I'll be there with my art zine and some smaller pieces on display. Come say hi and buy me a redbull, I'm old and this goes past my bedtime (10pm-1:30am).

Music! Books!

I haven't done one of these 'what I'm reading and listening to' posts in awhile, so here's one! I like doing this even though I am a pretty terrible writer. These aren't meant to be reviews, just a quick 'hey here's what I'm checking out and you should too' post.

I picked this up the other night when Elway played the Fireside Bowl. It was another excellent show and I've been basically listening non-stop to the new album at work (still sans laptop at home). They have some of the best whoa-oh-ohs in punk rock. Pick up the new album here from Red Scare.

Yay! An Orlando band. So stoked about this new album and can't wait to see them at Fest again.

Liz Prince likes bearded dudes and punk rock and draws them in her comics, it was kinda a no brainer to check out her work once I found out about her. I have her web comics in my google reader to read everyday and have purchased and few of her comics from her webstore. Everything she does is pretty damn funny and a good read.

I read this book in about 4 days, solely whilst commuting on the train and during lunch breaks at work. I devoured it and didn't want it to end, I could read Nate Ganglehoff's shit forever. This one is stories about growing up in the Midwest and stumbling into adulthood.

Call for Artists is Up!

Check out the call for artists here. I'm curating the exhibit titled "Independent: Chicago Band Photography"; I finally found a way to combine my love for art and music, I'm stoked! I'm also looking for people to play acoustic sets throughout the day. Contact me with any questions.

Goofball

I'm still computerless, so this is a quick post from work (shh, don't tell anyone). Here's me being me at my opening. Someone was there taking professional photos so I'll share a few when I get my hands on 'em. Thanks to everyone who came out, it was so much fun! Up next: curating for the Milwaukee Ave Arts Festival this summer.

Whew

Sooo.....it's been a very interesting week. Last Friday our apartment was broken into and me and my roomie's laptops were stolen. Needless to say I am pretty bummed, but also very happy that no one was hurt in this incident. Every digital photo I've ever taken and all my music is gone. I have some photo backups on flickr and a good amount of my music still on cd's, but those who know me know how much all this means to me and how it's rough to have it all stolen.

My friend Chris and his band Tension Generation played a show that same night and had a donation jar out for me to help me get a new computer. I am so lucky to have such awesome friends! Many thanks to them.

Anyways. We got the Point of View show hung yesterday and it looks great! It was nice to take a step back when it was all done and breathe a sigh of relief. This was my first time curating and I was a bit nervous. I cannot wait for the opening reception on Saturday and hope you can come check it out!

Countdown

It's been a busy time since I last posted, but I almost have everything together for the show (we hang next week). The zine layout is all done and I am copying it this week. I've run into a road block thinking of titles for it so I'm sure I'll figure that out right before I head to the copy place. It's been stressful working full time and working on a bunch of other projects but it's also pretty satisfying. I haven't had much trouble sleeping for a few weeks now!

Alright, that's all. Hope my Chicago readers can make it to the opening!

I am good at making a mess.

Working out some pricing.

Currently Re-Reading

Hoping to get my first zine off the ground in time for my May 7th art opening at I AM Logan Square and I'm re-reading this to get some pointers. It appears to be out of print over at Microcosm but I think I saw this in stock at Quimby's (which is where I originally got this) last time I was there if anyone is interested in checking this out

Art Swap

I AM Logan Square hosted it's April gallery opening and art swap this past Thursday! It was a great time! I've been volunteering with them and am going to be curating and in the next show in May. It's so great to see the neighborhood arts community thriving and the art swap raised money for the Milwaukee Ave Arts Fest this summer.

Check out all the photos from the opening here, Brooke Herbert and I did the photographs (she's the professional though!).

Great crowd and great food.

Brooke and I got each others artwork in the swap. Check out her work here.

Brooke and I both took photos for the event, I wish that was my camera but it's not!
