Workflow

Today was a good day as far as work flow goes for both my day job and my art.

I love when people write about their day to day, so here was mine (with limited photos, I didn't realize I would write about my day till tonight).

This morning I woke up just after 7:30, which is sleeping in since I decided to work from home for my day job. I put the ingredients for pork carnitas in the slow cooker, got coffee and breakfast going and starting working a little after 8.

At lunch I took a break and took advantage of the lighting outside to take some photos of my newest paintings outside on our back stairwell so I can list them on Etsy.

After I got the photos, I ran out to grab coffee then continued my workday. When I was done with the day job at 5 I took a TV break and watched the latest Game of Throne with Scott. After that and before dinner was editing the photos I took earlier; then after dinner was a few drinks at the local watering hole then back home to get the new listings ready and saved as drafts so I can publish in the AM.

Not too bad! I truly enjoy a day where I am productive but still have time to relax. Now I am going to catch up on some blog reading before bed. Till next time!

Currently- June

I've been working on a new painting for my show at Reed's Local coming up in July. It's been frustrating working a little bigger in a small space but I am making it work. Below is a sneak at what I have been doing.

I've been taking a step back and thinking about my work (thinking too much honestly) and I am frustrated with how much I think and don't just DO. I want to make, make, make; but when it comes down to it I start to doubt. Doubt is slowing me down so much right now. I mean, in the end it's just paint right? I can paint over a mistake, keep going till I get it right. But again here comes that doubt....what if I can't get it right? I am working to get over this doubt that has been looming over me for years. I am in a good place in my life, it's not the end of the world if I can't get a painting right. Move on, go to the next one and do that one right.

Writing this out and sharing with whoever reads this is already helping. Writing gets out these thoughts that are stuck in my head on repeat and breaks the cycle. I need to find what works for me- what keeps me focused.  It might take me awhile to get there, but I will get there.

Finding Creativity

If you have been a follower of my work, you know I struggle constantly with finding creativity. My most common thought/concern is- How is this unique, what will draw people to this artwork? In the Internet age it is so easy to get overwhelmed with imagery. While it's great to have inspiration, it can also be a bit daunting. Thoughts of "well my work isn't THIS good" can hold me back, but does eventually turn in to "well, I need to work hard even harder to make my work THAT good" . Turn the doubt in to motivation!

I recently started listening to the Smart Creative Women podcast. I love hearing about how other people work. A peek in to everything from how they got started in art- to their day to day routine. I love hearing even the boring bits (setting aside time to administrative duties, etc), all of it.

Do you have any creative podcast that you listen to? Please let me know in the comments!

Art in Our Home

I wanted to share the artwork my boyfriend and I have up in our apartment because I feel once you hang art, it really feels like home.

First is the office/studio in the 2nd bedroom. I like having this wall be a mixture of photographs, mixed media, and prints.

For a small place, we sure did pack in a lot of art! This is the main room, which we decided to hang pieces gallery style.

The bedroom features a few prints, I wanted to keep these walls more simple and avoid the gallery style of hanging.
