ooohhh!

I sure do love my new scalloped edge paper scissors! and gel transfers.

Paper Doll

I finally wandered into Paper Doll on Division today and I'm in love! What a great great shop full of cutesy everything from stationary to t-shirts to knick knacks. I picked up some patterned papers and am already using them! I'm on this weird bookmark making binge and and just made one using the new paper and an image from this 80's woman's book i picked up thrifting.

Sickly Sweet

I put a bunch of new Valentine's Day cards up in they etsy shop, check them out here!

Prototype

I got a pack of multicolored card stock recently and have been playing around with ideas for what to make with it. Here is a bookmark I made with spray paint and embroidered on. What does everyone think?

Art Day

Nothing like a cold Chicago day spent in a museum and gallery hopping! I went to the MCA today to see the Jenny Holzer exhibit before it closes next week, then went to a bunch of galleries in the River North district. I took some good notes at the MCA and will probably nerd out in a post soon and put up/discuss my notes and thoughts about other exhibitions I saw.

This Could Be Love

Valentine's Day is a total hallmark holiday but I couldn't resist making some sickly sweet little cards. Coming soon to the etsy shop!

Guest Bloggin'

Dolan Geiman

Lovebird Collection (2009)

That's right, my first guest blog will be published tomorrow! Make sure to check out Chicago artist Dolan Geiman's blog Friday January 23rd for my "Link Love" listing. Every week they are featuring a list of links based around a central theme, and I chose embroidery and sewing in contemporary art and craft. Since that's been an obsession of mine for awhile it was an obvious choice. Thanks to Dolan Geiman for the opportunity! He is currently the featured seller on etsy so make sure to check out his interview here.

XOXO

Once upon a time...

Being out of college for a few years I'm still trying to have better self discipline. Getting back in the habit of using a sketchbook would be a good first step! Here's some random pages from the last few years, enjoy peeps.

XOXO

Linkies

I added a few more links to the side for some of my favorite blogs and websites. So yes, settle in with a nice beverage, perhaps a cocktail, and enjoy.

XOXOXO

Pricked

I stumbled upon this great article today about embroidery and thought I would share. It's about the use of the traditional medium for more modern applications in the fine arts.

I'm a bit of  nerd for this kinda stuff.

Check out the article here on the site We Make Money Not Art.

Here and Now

Alright new blog look and a few new items in the etsy shop! That's all the update I have for now, back to work...

Good Start

Happy New Year! It's only a few days in but it's been a good start so far! Been having good times with good friends and last night I got to see The Copyrights/Shot Baker/Hot Water Music .  I think the last time I saw Hot Water Music was the Social in Orlando about 5 years ago and since then I've seen Chuck do his solo material in Chicago a few times. Anyways, point being it was a great show! Been so busy with the holidays and whatnot that I have only been working on my art here and there...Once I finish this one painting I've been working on for awhile I want to send in submissions to a few galleries for a show. I have a few smaller local galleries in mind that seem to focus on Chicago artists so we'll see...I've been having trouble focusing lately? Adult ADD? Haha who knows?

Time to work on some embroidery then hopefully it's off to Club Foot! Oh how I love my neighborhood!

Slip n' Slide

Yep that's what I did today when I attempted to walk to work. After the second slip and fall about 2 blocks from my house I gave up and went back home to nurse my sore butt, back, elbow...etc. Besides the crappy ice this morning that covered EVERYTHING it was a good day to nap and work on some crafts! Oh and also think of possible places to move to because I'm sick of this midwest winter crap.

Here's some places I'm considering moving to. If I go through with a move it would be next fall so I could have another summer in Chicago.

Portland
Charlotte (or somewhere else in the Carolinas)
Las Vegas
Seattle

Any input on these locations anyone? I have friends in Portland and Charlotte but don't now anyone in the other locations.

Anyways, here's a pictures of some gift tags I just added to my etsy shop, which you can check out through the link in the sidebar.

Sunday Night Sketching

Weekend synopsis: Had to dig out my car from the snow the other day and realized I miss wearing shorts, bought some art and craft supplies, walked to the grocery store in minus 3 degree weather before wind chill, slept in, watched 4 fire trucks pull up for the building next door (no fire I guess, false alarm?), drank a lot of free sparks and cheap PBR, keep meeting/running into people from Florida, bar hopped, worked on some art projects, and all the while counting the days till Spring so I can be warm again!

Here's a sketch I did tonight; going to paint this possibly on the canvas I have been working on or use this for something new.....

Work It

Started a new piece tonight..here's a peek! I'm finally using the fabric samples Sarah gave me awhile back.

Cozy

It's been snowing all day and so far all night. Good time to work on wrapping presents (gotta ship most of them back to Florida). I realized the other day I haven't touched my sketchbook in awhile so might also be a good night for that too.

Too bad I don't have a yard for a snowball fight. :(
